Job Title: Intermediate Job Cost Accountant

Salary Range: Competitive base salary in the range of $65,000 to $80,000 (commensurate with experience) plus performance-based pay based on KPIs

Company Overview: We are a well-established and growing residential renovation and construction company based in Edmonton, Alberta. Known for delivering high-quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service, we specialize in custom home renovations, additions, and new residential builds. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a dedicated Intermediate Job Cost Accountant to support the financial oversight of our construction projects.

Overview

The Intermediate Job Cost Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate job cost records, tracking actuals against budgets, and providing timely reporting to assist project managers and senior leadership in making informed financial decisions. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in a construction accounting environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Job Costing & Budget Monitoring: Set up and maintain job cost codes and budgets within the accounting/project management system; Track actual job costs and compare them to budgeted figures across multiple projects; Work with project managers and senior leadership to investigate and explain cost variances; Assist in developing and updating project cost forecasts
  • Financial Reporting: Generate and distribute weekly and monthly job cost reports; Support month-end close activities related to project accounting; Assist with WIP (Work-In-Progress) reporting and revenue recognition
  • Accounts Payable & Procurement Support: Code and process subcontractor and supplier invoices to appropriate jobs; Collaborate with procurement and site teams to ensure accurate invoice matching and approvals; Change orders management; Maintain organized records of job-related expenditures
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Support development and enforcement of job cost accounting procedures; Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and relevant legislation (including GST and CRA requirements); Assist in year-end audit preparation and respond to audit requests
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in job cost accounting, ideally within residential construction or renovations
  • Strong understanding of job costing principles and project-based accounting
  • Proficient in accounting and project management software such as QuickBooks Online, Buildertrend, or similar
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, budget tracking)
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of Alberta construction industry practices is an asset
