The Opportunity :
Our small but mighty finance team is looking for a talented and passionate Accountant to enhance the team. The ideal candidate will be excited to add value to the finance team and all business teams through timely, accurate and reliable financial data. You will also be very passionate about process improvement focusing on enabling accuracy and efficiency across teams.This person will be an organized individual, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy with strong attention to detail. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
What you will be doing :
- Enable and ensure accurate, timely and reliable accounting information
- Assist with full cycle accounting including preparing month end close entries such as prepaids, fixed assets, bank reconciliations and accrued receivables and payables
- Maintain processes around asset management including supporting the timely collection of overdue accounts and reporting on the status of receivables and payables
- Assist with the monthly credit card reconciliations and semimonthly payment runs
- Assist in the timely and accurate filing of GST returns
- Prepare or assist with monthly financial data in a timely, accurate and reliable manner, including account reconciliations and budget variance analyses
- Support the quarterly forecasting and annual budget processes
- Assist with regular cash forecasting and management
- Support internal procedures to ensure that Platform Calgary is managed within its mandate, regulations and bylaws
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly internal and annual external financial statements
- Assist with the external auditors to enable a smooth and efficient audit
What you will bring :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) is an asset
- 2-3 years of progressive experience and familiarity with accounting software and financial reporting systems; experience working in a dynamic non-profit environment is an asset
- 2+ years of experience assisting with a month end close and year end close process, preparing leadsheets and submitting related month end close entries
- An understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;exposure to Non-profit standards is an asset
- Proficient in Excel, Google Suite and Google Sheets; proficiency in Sage Intacct and Asana is an asset
- Demonstrated ability for continuous improvement around accounting and control processes to enable timely, accurate and reliable financial information
- Ability to spot mistakes and ensure the details are taken care of; requires a high level of accuracy
- Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with multiple teams
- Dependable, self-directed, and with strong organizational skills
- Collaborative professional who takes ownership and drives issues to resolution
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team environment with changing, competing priorities and tight timelines
- You enjoy learning together with your teammates and helping others to succeed in their work as well
- You prioritize balancing work and personal life
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
