Job summary

Supported Lifestyles Ltd is a not-for-profit agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. The senior accountant will ensure accurate financial records, lead reconciliations, and provide insights to senior management.

You will manage month-end and year-end closes, prepare statements and audit schedules, coordinate budgets, and ensure ASPE/IFRS compliance along with payroll and tax filings. A CPA is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and five years’ related experience.
  • Knowledge of ASPE/IFRS, tax regulations, and payroll systems.
  • CPA designation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy of financial records and manage complex reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities with journal entries.
  • Prepare financial statements and audit schedules for external audits.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable and payroll; identify process improvements.
  • Monitor government remittances and file T4s and reports.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial records while managing complex reconciliations.
  • Provide key financial insights to senior management.
  • Summarize and confirm current financial status by collecting and interpreting information, preparing balance sheet, revenue and expenditure statements and special financial reports summarizing account information and trends.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and provide all necessary working papers, including preparing audit schedules, for the external auditing process.
  • Assist in budget preparation by collecting, analyzing budget variances, and consolidating financial data, recommending plans.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE/IFRS), tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist with the preparation of tax filings and support tax-related inquiries.
  • Investigate and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and issues.
  • Oversee and monitor day-to-day accounts payable, receivable, and payroll tasks, while identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Review payroll input data and balance the payroll.
  • Manage all government remittances and prepare and file T4S and other required reporting.
  • Provide and update contract information.
  • Maintain various operational reports to support different service areas.
  • Ensure that the computer system is fully functional at all times and supervise the monthly computer maintenance.
  • Guide and mentor accounting and payroll employees by answering questions and reviewing processes.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Robust analytical, emotional intelligence, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. This can be acquired through a combination of post-secondary courses (minimum of level 4 CGA certification) and on-the-job training comprising five years’ related experience.
  • Excellent analytical and investigative skills as they relate to financial information and its interpretation.
  • A thorough working knowledge of computerized accounting and payroll systems and spreadsheet software, advanced Excel, and a basic knowledge of word processing. Proficiency in ADP and having strong programming skills are an asset.
  • The ability to prepare written reports to management, interpreting and summarizing financial information to assist planning and decision-making.
  • The ability to effectively and professionally supervise other accounting staff.
  • The ability to get along with employees from different levels of the organization.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively within a management team.
  • Possessing a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is an asset.
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $83,803.20 to $125,000. We also offer a competitive benefits package and growth opportunities.

Schedule

The typical schedule for this position is a 40-hour workweek from Monday to Friday, with the typical hours from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Some flexibility in hours is required for this position.
