Account Director, Corporate Communications

Burson is looking for an Account Director for its corporate affairs team based in Toronto. You will work be responsible for day-to-day leadership of accounts and projects, pulling together passionate, engaged colleagues to deliver excellent client service and high-quality work. You must have proven communications experience and strong project management skills. You’d stand apart from other candidates if you have expertise in earned/paid media, B2B communications and experience in the financial services, professional services, technology and/or energy sectors.

What you'll do:
  • Oversee projects and ensure the delivery of high-quality work, on time and on budget
  • Serve as a strategic counsellor to clients, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of their sector and business, anticipating their needs and troubleshooting when challenges arise
  • Serve as a mentor and coach for team members, contributing to a positive and dynamic culture
  • Work collaboratively with specialists to deliver integrated programs and campaigns
  • Demonstrate and encourage creativity and innovation for clients and colleagues
  • Have a positive and team-oriented attitude, and a genuine interest in continuing to learn and build a passionate, motivated and engaged team
  • Manage account financials and contribute to driving growth and account profitability
  • Effectively articulate ideas to clients, colleagues and others using your strong communication and presentation skills
Experience that contributes to success:
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with a focus on corporate communications. Agency experience is a must.
  • An excellent track record providing strategic counsel to clients and leading the development of integrated communications strategies
  • An ability to work independently and a proactive approach to driving work forward
  • A desire to be in the heart of the action, managing various streams of work with a high level of organization and agility
  • An affinity for mentoring staff and leading local and national teams towards a common objective
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with an ability to identify new business opportunities
  • An interest in financial services and/or energy would be great but a general interest in working across various subject matters would be ideal
  • Experience managing integrated campaigns across paid, owned, and shared media channels
