Job description

The Division of Gastroenterology within the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for the position of Academic General Gastroenterologist. This is a Clinician Scholar role and the successful incumbent’s time will be focused on clinical service.

The Division of Gastroenterology is a collegial and supportive group of 14 academic gastroenterologists who provide specialist clinical care to a large catchment area. Subspecialties include therapeutic and third space endoscopy, upper and lower motility expertise with a high-quality manometry lab, hepatology, and inflammatory bowel disease. The Division’s is internationally recognized and conducts externally funded research in basic and translation science, investigator-driven clinical trials, and studies of population databases. Its’ state-of-the-art research facility houses multidisciplinary basic and clinician scientists.

The successful candidate will have major clinical responsibilities and will be expected to demonstrate exemplary clinical service. Additional training and experience in nutrition, education research, and / or quality improvement is considered an asset. The successful candidate must also demonstrate strong potential for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as exhibit a strong potential for innovative scholarly research contributions. The successful candidate must also demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. The incumbent will be expected to make contributions through service to the Department, the Faculty, the University, and / or the broader community.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Gastroenterology by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
