Job summary

The University of Toronto’s Environment School within the Faculty of Arts & Science seeks a Department Manager to provide strategic, HR, operation and financial leadership for the School’s administration. Reporting to the Academic Director, you will lead strategic initiatives and oversee resources across departments.

You will supervise administrative staff, manage budgets, policy interpretation and implementation, and coordinate projects and communications across university units and unions.

Qualifications

• University degree in business, economics, and/or financial management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ related and progressive experience in financial management and administration in a similar environment.
• Experience building and developing effective administrative systems and processes.
• Experience working with and interpreting policies and procedures pertaining to budget, finance, human resources, academic administration.
• Experience leading, supervising and motivating staff members.
• Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment is an asset.
• Demonstrated success in the design and implementation of new initiatives and processes.
• Advanced computer skills in MS Office, email and internet.
• Demonstrated experience with FIS and HRIS, or similar related systems.
• Excellent administrative, analytical and financial skills with ability to interpret and apply information and provide financial analysis.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead administrative policies and procedures to support the School’s operations.
• Plan and implement strategic initiatives, projects and outreach efforts.
• Provide budgetary advice to the Academic Director and implement financial policies.
• Manage administrative staff, hiring, performance management and professional development.
• Coordinate communications and promote the School to raise its profile and ensure best practices.
