Job description
Overview

The successful candidate will join 10 other surgical specialists in our university-based academic clinical practice. The Attending is expected to play an active educator role in the education of undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and nursing staff (e.g., simulator training) of the ICU. The successful applicant will report to the Head of the Division of Cardiac Surgery. We value maintaining a working environment that is optimal for the delivery of excellent health care and the successful hire will actively engage in personal coaching/leadership training. Compensation is through participation in the Dalhousie University Department of Surgery Academic Funding Plan (AFP).

Responsibilities
  • Educate and supervise students, residents, and fellows in the Division of Cardiac Surgery.
  • Contribute to simulator training and nursing staff education in the ICU.
  • Collaborate with the Head of the Division and participate in leadership development and coaching.
  • Provide clinical care within the university-based academic clinical practice.
Qualifications
  • Must be certified in Cardiac Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Experience with coronary artery bypass grafting, mitral valve replacement, aortic valve replacement, Bentall procedures and Type A repairs is expected.
  • Fellowship training in a specific area is recommended.
  • Must be eligible for licensure in Nova Scotia.
  • Participation in research is expected.
