Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering is seeking a permanent, full-time Above Water Warfare Modeling and Simulation Specialist to join our Combat and Control Systems (CCS) team at the Canadian Forces Maritime Warfare Centre (CFMWC) in Halifax, NS. The role involves working as part of a team that serves as the Canadian Forces’ premier center for naval systems analysis, aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).

This position offers modeling and simulation (M&S) services to support tactical development for Halifax-class Frigates and future River Class Destroyers. It is suitable for entry-level applicants and experienced professionals, as the work requires developing specialized technical skills and subject matter expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform warfare-relevant model-based engineering studies for CFMWC.
  2. Use and maintain M&S tools on the CFMWC computation cluster for combat system effectiveness analysis.
  3. Advise RCN on priorities for M&S developments.
  4. Participate in technical workshops at national and international levels.
  5. Collaborate with M&S tool developers and combat system experts in industry and government.
  6. Safety First: Demonstrate a commitment to zero harm and safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, requiring Canadian citizenship and at least 10 years of residence in Canada.
  • Mandatory: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Science, or equivalent; a Master’s degree or higher is highly desirable. Relevant coursework or experience in research and data analysis is also preferred.
  • Required: Excellent research, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Required: Willingness to work in a military environment alongside service members and defense personnel, supporting organizational and ethical values.
  • Required: Commitment to ongoing learning, including online courses, training, and conference participation.
  • Optional: Experience in Combat Systems Engineering, naval warfare, or military shipboard systems is highly desirable.
