ABW – Able Bodied Wheels Person - Self Unloader

We have immediate openings for Able Bodied Wheels persons with self-unloader experience on our new self-unloading ship arriving in 2023. We are looking for eager and self-starting individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • ABW on self-unloader ships is a leader among the crew; strong leadership capabilities are a must
  • Maintain professionalism in personal conduct, both in watchkeeping duties on the bridge and deck duties in port
  • Possess strong practical skills related to deck operations, including safe winch operation, deck equipment handling, and monitoring other deck crew during port and cargo operations
  • Be knowledgeable in conveyor system processes and assist with cargo handling operations as needed
  • Lead basic maintenance of deck equipment within the planned maintenance framework
  • Maintain strong housekeeping skills
  • Communicate effectively with crew and officers, leading cargo, maintenance, or training functions onboard
  • Assist the officer of the watch (OOW) and share deck duties as directed
  • Understand and competently steer the vessel in various waterways and speeds
  • Understand the bridge resource management and their role within it
  • Lead by example in teaching subordinate AB positions and trainees onboard
Qualifications
  • Previous self-unloader experience preferred
  • Marine Emergency Duties (MED’s), STCW Basic Safety, and Survival Craft Certifications
  • Bridge Watch Rating Certificate of Competency issued by Transport Canada
  • Transport Canada Marine Medical
  • Bondable
  • Effective communication and proven teamwork skills
