6 Months Contract, Gifts In Kind Assistant
This is a 100% onsite position. Covenant House Vancouver requires all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required prior to your start date.
Since 1997, Covenant House Vancouver has provided relentless support for youth experiencing, or at-risk of experiencing, homelessness. We provide support to young people aged 16 to 24 who have experienced a wide range of trauma, including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Our purpose is to serve all youth with respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and to provide a safe and supportive environment for all youth in need.
Working at Covenant House can be a meaningful experience, but it can be demanding. Frontline work involves exposure to others’ trauma, and the youth we serve may experience overdose, physical harm, and, in rare cases, death. Because we provide a relational model of care, the harms our youth experience can impact staff in varying degrees. We provide training to address vicarious trauma, a counselling allowance, and emphasise self-awareness and self-care. Some candidates and employees decide during recruiting or probation that this work isn’t for them, which is completely fair. We will provide more information on vicarious trauma during recruiting and onboarding to help you decide if Covenant House is the place for you.
As an Assistant with our Gifts in Kind team, you will help coordinate the day-to-day operations of Covenant House’s Gifts in Kind program by receiving, processing, and managing physical donations. You will support our Christmas Backpack Campaign, ensure that donations are appropriate to keep, and liaise about re-donating items to other organizations as needed.
How you will contribute:
This position is offered as a fixed-term contract for a duration of 6 months from the date of signing.
Who are we looking for?
Education and Experience:
The successful candidate can expect a starting hourly rate of between $20.91 and $26.14, depending on factors such as internal equity, experience, competencies, and education. Once hired, the hourly rate is reviewed annually following the annual performance review, with the opportunity for increase over time up to the pay band maximum of currently $31.37.
Beginning immediately, this position offers extended health and dental benefits for you, your spouse, and your children, including generous counselling benefits. If you’d like more information on what we offer, please ask.
