Description

The Junior High Teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
  • Bachelor of Education - Secondary
  • Major or Minor in ELA
  • Major or Minor in Physical and Health Education

  • Professional development in Phys-ed and ELA
  • Experience teaching Phys-ed and ELA 7-9
  • Ability to promote and maintain confidentiality regarding records and documentation
  • Excellent communication (written, oral, electronic), problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving, and program planning
  • Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Current knowledge of developmental trauma and its impact on learning, communication, and social engagement throughout the lifespan
  • Willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development
  • Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality
  • Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning opportunities related to students with behaviors of concern
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
