Job summary

South Shore Regional Centre for Education seeks a Learning Support & Physical Education Teacher for New Germany Rural High School. The role blends 50% Learning Support 10–12, 25% Physical Education 12, 10% Health 7, 15% PREP (NGRHS), with a 100% term contract. Effective dates TBD, start potentially July 31, 2027.

Must hold NS teaching license with inclusive education focus and suitable endorsements. Applicants should have 5+ years teaching Grade 10–12, experience with diverse needs, and training

• Valid NS teaching license and relevant Master’s degree in Inclusive Education or Curriculum with a focus on UDL.
• Minimum 5 years experience teaching Grade 10–12 with diverse needs.
• Endorsements in Physical Education and Secondary

Responsibilities

• Develop and support Individual Program Plans and Integrated Support Plans.
• Support Universal Design for Learning within MTSS framework.
• Collaborate with team to assess and report progress; integrate cross-curricular activities.
• Implement evidence-based programs and interventions at Tier 1–3.
• Model teaching strategies and support teachers and TAs.
• Ensure compliance with OH&S regulations and provincial policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid NS teaching license, Masters in Inclusive Education and/or Special Education or Acadia Masters in Curriculum with focus on UDL and Inclusive Education
• Minimum of 5 years experience working as a classroom teacher for Grade 10-12 programming for students with diverse needs
• Recent training and experience in evidence based programming and intervention for students with diverse needs
• Training in the following: TEACCH, STAR (Strategies for Teaching based on Autism Research), Social Narratives, Social Thinking, Zones of Regulation, Interoception, and APSEA AIE ASD Online Course: ASD and Behavioral Interventions: An Introduction for School Personnel, Assistive Technology, & Supporting Student Behaviour through a Positive Approach (SSRCE and NSCC partnership course)
• Endorsation in Physical Education.
• Minimum 1 year experience teaching Physical Education.
• Endorsation in Secondary
• Proven ability to work as a contributing member of Student Planning Teams and Teaching Support Teams
• Excellent communication (written, oral, and electronic), problem solving, organization, and interpersonal skills

Characteristics:

• Demonstrated ability to provide program direction and assist teachers in the development of appropriate outcomes for students with diverse needs
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, community members, and outside agencies

Task Dimensions:

• Apply training and experience to develop and support Individual Program Plans, Integrated Support Plans, and teaching strategies based on the individual needs of students
• Supporting Universal Design for Learning within an MTSS framework
• Collaborating and supporting assessment and reporting practicesIntegrating cross-curricular, student-focused activities
• Supporting the implementation of evidence-based programming, strategies, and interventions at Tier 1, 2, and 3
• Modeling teaching strategies and supporting teachers and/or TAs
• Comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
• Possess knowledge of provincial and Regional Education Centre or CSAP policies, guidelines and procedures, and the rights and responsibilities of parents, students, teachers, and schools, as they relate to individuals with special needs
• Perform other related duties as required
