MacEwan University is seeking a 4th Class Power Engineer for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Facilities department.

Reporting to the Coordinator of Mechanical Services, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining boilers, chillers, generators, and other auxiliary equipment that provide heat, refrigeration, and essential services for the university's infrastructure. Additionally, you will support the operation of the Building Management System (BMS), monitor and inspect heating plant equipment, including switches, gauges, valves, alarms, and meters, and assist with more technical HVAC servicing tasks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting daily inspections of boilers, chillers, generators, pumps, thermal exchange equipment, and controls; recording temperature and pressure readings, and documenting deficiencies to ensure optimal plant equipment operation;
  • Troubleshooting and performing corrective action and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failure;
  • Performing minor HVAC repairs, replacing filters, and handling other facility repairs (architectural, plumbing, door hardware, calibrations, etc.) repairs as required;
  • Cleaning and lubricating generators, pumps, and compressors and performing other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants, and hand, power, and precision tools;
  • Maintaining daily logs of operation, maintenance and safety activities, and write reports on plant operation and noncompliance;
  • Monitoring hydronic heating and cooling system chemical treatment and recommend/oversee corrective measures; and
  • Prepare for and perform annual internal inspections of hot water equipment, boilers, tanks, pressure vessels and miscellaneous equipment, replacing pressure relief valves as required.
Skills

You will have:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge researching, diagnosing issues and initiating repairs with building heating and cooling systems; and
  • A strong mechanical aptitude.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a High School diploma.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Power Engineering experience within commercial or institutional settings.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Position Requirements
  • The ability to work flexible hours; may include early mornings, evenings and weekend coverage.
  • Required to participate in the on-call rotation
