Job summary

Pathways to Independence requires a Maintenance Technician who will work as a member of the Operations team to maintain all properties in a safe, attractive and comfortable condition by performing preventative maintenance, general repairs, grounds keeping and custodial duties. Work is performed inside and outside in all seasons and requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs.

Travel to all Pathways worksites is required; hours are Schedule B and compensation is $28.71 per hour in Belleville,

Qualifications

  • Minimum Secondary School graduation and 1-year post-secondary certificate in skilled trades or building services.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in maintenance and repair (electrical, plumbing, heating, custodial, carpentry).
  • Valid driver’s license and access to an automobile.
  • Knowledge of adaptive requirements in environments for individuals with disabilities or brain injuries.
  • Knowledge of building codes and by-laws.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation to ensure safe practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Pathways properties in a clean, safe, attractive and comfortable condition.
  • Respond to maintenance requests for repairs, ensuring properties are safe and clean.
  • Carry out routine inspections on all properties.
  • Perform renovation tasks (drywall, painting, minor carpentry and masonry).
  • Assist supported client housekeeping and general labourers as required.
  • Report and address health and safety concerns.
  • Inspect facilities for repairs and notify the Manager, Operations as needed.
  • Ensure administrative duties are completed thoroughly and on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary & Working Conditions

Pathways to Independence requires a Maintenance Technician who will work as a member of the Operations team to maintain all properties in a safe, attractive and comfortable condition by performing preventative maintenance, general repairs, grounds keeping and custodial duties.

Work for this position is performed inside and outside in all seasons and requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. Work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, lifting, and shoveling. Flexible hours required to meet operational needs. Some work may occur outside of normally scheduled hours on an emergency basis. The Maintenance Technician may also be required to respond to emergency maintenance situations outside of regular scheduled work hours and may be required to be “on call” as required.

Key Responsibilities for this role include(but are not limited to)
  • Maintain all Pathways properties in a clean, safe, attractive and comfortable condition;
  • Respond to maintenance requests for repairs, ensuring properties are in a safe and clean repair;
  • Carry out routine inspections on all properties;
  • Complete a variety of renovation tasks (i.e., drywall, painting, minor carpentry and masonry work such as hanging doors, fitting locks and handles);
  • Assist supported client housekeeping and general labourer employees as required to complete their assigned duties;
  • Report and ensure Health and Safety concerns are appropriately responded to;
  • Routinely inspect the facilities for repairs and notify the Manager, Operations of any health and safety issues that require attention;
  • Ensure administrative duties are completed thoroughly and in a timely manner;
  • Other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications/experience:
  • Minimum Secondary School graduation and 1-year post-secondary certificate in skilled trades or building services;
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a variety of preventative maintenance and repair techniques, electrical, plumbing, heating, custodial work and carpentry;
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to an automobile;
  • Knowledge and understanding of adaptive requirements needed in environments supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and/or acquired brain injuries;
  • Knowledge of building codes and by-laws;
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and issues to ensure that safe working practices are followed at all times;
Ideal candidates will also have skills and abilities which include:
  • Possession of, or ability to acquire, Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems certification;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility;
  • Ability to use computers, be proficient in e-mail and other computer-based tools;
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks and deadlines;
  • Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment required to perform the functions of position
