Job Description

As a valued member of our culinary team, you will assist with plating and serving meals, and will be responsible for cleaning serving areas, as well as equipment, while following established policies, procedures, and standards. Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Dietary Aide at Extendicare-Red River Place, a 104-bed long-term care home located in Selkirk, Manitoba.

What you’ll be doing
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Observe time limits for meal serving and maintain foods at proper serving temperature.
  • Assist Cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Prepare simple menu items like breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clear plates from dining tables and trays from food trolleys/carts.
  • Operate dishwashers and store clean dishes appropriately.
  • Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
  • Adhere to departmental policies regarding quality assurance, safety, infection control, and privacy.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock supplies as needed.
  • Participate in facility meetings and complete required education and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
What you bring
  • Previous food service experience in an institutional setting preferred.
  • Current or enrolled in Food Handler Training Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and follow instructions.
  • Understanding of therapeutic diets and portion control.
  • Teamwork, maturity, patience, courtesy, and understanding when working with the elderly or disabled.
  • Good physical and mental health, ability to stand for extended periods, and lift up to 23 kg.
  • Availability for workdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
