Job description

The Program

Mountainside Support Services provides individualized 24-hour support for children/youth and adults with a variety of specialized and/or complex needs.

Our Services Include

  • Supporting youth in recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them trauma informed care within resource homes.
  • Community-based supports for adults with diverse abilities.
  • Home-based supports for adults with diverse abilities.
  • Home Share programs for adults with diverse abilities.
  • Life skills development supports for both youth transitioning to adult services as well as adults with diverse abilities.
  • Outreach supports for youth and adults that are supported with life skills, self-help skills, employment, and more.

The Position

The Live-in Support Worker provides care and support services to persons served that may be recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them trauma informed care within 24 hour staffed resource homes.

Live-in Support Worker’s receive free room and board during work shifts and may receive breaks from the resource home, as conditions permit.

Three (3) permanent, part-time positions with a weekly schedule of 24 hours per week

Weekly Schedule

  • Live-In Support - starting at 0800 and finishing at 0800 the following morning (Friday, Saturday and Sunday schedules available)
  • If successful candidate is interested in combining two of these days to make a 48hr schedule we will consider this request.

In Your Role You Will

  • Maintain a safe, supportive and caring environment for persons served staying at the resource home
  • Provide life skills development such as hygiene, meal preparation, cooking, housekeeping, shopping, etc.
  • Organize household tasks (meal planning, food purchasing and preparation, house cleaning, basic maintenance)
  • Implement individuals' daily schedule, including transporting individuals to and from appointments, school, monitoring progress and supporting at-home learning
  • Support the individuals and help the individuals work toward their goals and plans
  • Help develop the care plan for each individual and monitor progress
  • Participate in the evaluation of social skills, life skills, resiliency, coping patterns, etc.
  • Administer medications as per policy
  • Identify potential crises and prevent or deescalate these situations
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives; able to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Monitor visits by family/friends of individuals (if required)
  • Comply with financial policies and petty cash procedures
  • Maintain individual served files in accordance with program standards
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required
  • Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

  • Experience working with youth or adults with complex behaviors
  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Work, Human Services, Education, Sociology or Psychology
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, may also be considered.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract
  • Reliable, safe vehicle with appropriate insurance for transporting individuals
  • Experience with trauma informed practices
  • Strong conflict resolution, mediation and crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
  • Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT are considered an asset.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening and provide three (3) professional references prior to confirmed employment with Mountainside Support Services.
