Position: 3rd Cook

Unit: Ascot in Stewart, BC

Point of Hire Location: Terrace, BC

Rotation: 28 days in/14 days out – Out of province; 14 days in/7 days out if local

Wage: $22.68 per hour

Job Description

The 3rd Cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, present, and serve a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The general responsibilities include the tasks listed below and other duties delegated by the Sous Chefs and Executive Chef.

Responsibilities
  • Typically performs fast food cooking duties (burgers, hot dogs, French fries, eggs cooked to order) and prepares food items for guests.
  • May produce food and serve guests at an a la carte, buffet, or grill station.
  • Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal/provincial and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service.
  • Provides the highest quality of service to customers.
  • Follows basic recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, tasting, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other items.
  • Prepares foods by operating kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting, shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming.
  • Tastes products, reads menus, and keeps records to accurately plan production requirements.
  • Maintains clean and sanitized workstations and equipment; follows Sodexo, client, and regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Produces small to large batch goods using various methods.
  • May select recipes per menu cycle, prepare bakery items, receive inventory, move, and lift foodstuffs and supplies.
  • Attends training programs and allergy/foodborne illness in-service training as designated.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures, and HACCP policies.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments; reports accidents and injuries promptly.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must have successfully completed a recognized pre-employment training course in cooking.
  • Excellent knife skills; able to demonstrate to your supervisor.
  • Know how to operate steamers, deep fryers, and meat slicers.
  • 1-2 years of experience in an industrial kitchen serving 1000-5000 persons.
  • 1-2 years of experience with food preparation and processing; high-volume environment experience.
  • 1 year of experience using HACCP food safety processes.
  • Valid Food Safety certification or provincial equivalent.
  • May accept an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • May be required to work day or night shifts.
  • Personal and professional integrity, appearance, and demeanor; good performance and attendance records.
