Job description

The Maintenance Apprentice will receive on-the-job training in performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and assisting with minor repairs to ensure the proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations and Company standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform limited repairs and preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, tire rotations, minor adjustments, etc.
  • Complete required paperwork associated with vehicle repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
  • Conduct vehicle safety inspections; identify, record, and report equipment deterioration for replacement or repair.
  • Assist mechanics with repairs and projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Inspect, remove, and replace tires.
  • Fuel and wash company vehicles.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to safety procedures and established techniques.
  • Ensure shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory and reporting in M5 program.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Basic hand tools and willingness to acquire additional tools as needed.

  • Knowledge of tools required for vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow schedules, instructions, manuals, and guidelines.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently or in a team.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand reports and documents.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform related tasks.
Working Conditions:

Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. Exposure to unpleasant sights, smells, and hazardous substances may occur.

Physical Demands:
  • Regular speaking and listening.
  • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, lifting, and other physical activities.
  • Use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds as needed.
