Job summary

Torch seeks a professional cook for our industrial remote camp catering team in Edmonton, AB. You will prepare and cook meals for large groups, from breakfast to dinner, and support daily prep tasks.

You must have Food Safe Level 1, HACCP knowledge, and be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in a remote camp setting. Accommodation and meals are provided, with overtime hours.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of cooking in a high-volume kitchen; camp or institutional cooking experience preferred.
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification required (provincial equivalent).
  • Knowledge of HACCP and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a remote camp setting, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • A team-first attitude; physically fit to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook hot and cold meals for large groups, from breakfast to dinner.
  • Assist with daily prep tasks: chopping, salads, sauces, baking, assembling meals.
  • Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation.
  • Follow HACCP and sanitation procedures; ensure safety standards.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and workstations.
  • Assist with inventory control; rotate stock and minimize waste.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to meet service timelines.
  • Assist with dishwashing and camp cleaning as needed.
  • Participate in safety meetings and follow company safety protocols.

Job description

Torch is proud to offer one of the finest industrial remote camp catering services. Our range of hospitality services include work-camp staffing and management, culinary services, utility services, communications and maintenance, snow removal, event coordination and lifestyle programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing and cooking a variety of hot and cold meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and grab-and-go) for large groups
  • Support daily food prep tasks such as chopping fruits and vegetables, preparing salads, sauces, baking, and assembling meals
  • Monitor food quality, portion sizes, and presentation
  • Follow safe food handling procedures and ensure all sanitation standards are met (HACCP compliant)
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, food prep areas, and workstations
  • Support inventory control by rotating stock, minimizing waste, and reporting shortages
  • Work collaboratively with the culinary team to meet service timelines
  • Assist with dishwashing and general camp cleaning duties when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all company and client safety protocols. Daily participation in safety requirements and meetings.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1–2 years of cooking experience in a high-volume kitchen; camp or, institutional cooking experience is preferred

Education and Experience:

Working Conditions:
  • Remote camp setting with extended stays on-site (e.g., 28/14 rotations).
  • Accommodation and meals provided.
  • Overtime hours
