Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate the Steam Plant department following regulations and standards.
• Support safety programs and ensure objectives are communicated and tracked.
• Develop and review standard operating procedures and modify lock-out procedures as needed.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and provide training and tools for safe work.
• Monitor operating parameters for efficiency, energy conservation, and environmental compliance.
• Maintain environmental responsibilities and regulatory compliance for Steam Plant operations.
• Provide relief for the Chief Power Engineer as required.
• Guide staff to ensure safe and efficient operation and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist with planning and coordinating annual maintenance shutdowns.
• Participate in budgeting and forecasting and manage the CMMS for plant maintenance.
• Plan and manage routine and emergency maintenance tasks; drive predictive/preventative tasks.

We are seeking qualified individuals for the role of 2nd Class Power Engineer Supervisor. Please note this position is based in Labrador West.

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Steam Plant department following all applicable regulations, codes, and standards.
• Assists with the implementation of Tacora’s safety programs and ensures that all safety objectives are communicated and implemented, and that progress is tracked.
• Assists with the development of all standard operating procedures and engages personnel in the review of any changes to safe operating and lock‑out procedures.
• Ensure personnel adheres strictly to safety protocols and practices to execute their responsibilities and provide the training, tools, and equipment necessary to perform their work safely.
• Ensures operating and maintenance parameters are followed to enhance efficiency, energy conservation, and environmental performance while complying with corporate and government safety and environmental regulations.
• Awareness of environmental responsibilities and ensures Steam Plant operations are continually in compliance with environmental regulations.

Operations & Key Job Accountabilities:

• Providing relief for the Chief Power Engineer as required.
• Giving direction and guidance to staff to carry out the department's safe and efficient operation and the maintenance of all area equipment.
• Assist with the planning, coordination execution of annual maintenance shutdown activities for areas of responsibility on‑site.
• Contributes to the development and management of annual budgets and forecasts.
• Assists with coordinating the ongoing development of the computerized maintenance management program and its use in administering the plant maintenance program.
• Accountable for the planning, implementation, and management of routine, non‑routine, and emergency maintenance work.
• Assist with the development of effective predictive and preventative maintenance tasks and track the department’s progress against established targets.

Staff Management:

• Establishes and maintains extensive partnerships with all departments on site, develops a positive working environment with the team, and ensures the team members are empowered, encouraged, recognized, and rewarded for their contributions and performance. Mentors and guides the team for their continual development.
• Supervising and administering the collective agreement as it applies to assigned staff.
• Coordinating with the Chief Power Engineer as it relates to operational issues identified, including recommending changes in operating shift procedures and processes and maintaining leave schedules and relief staff requirements.
• Ensures that established responsibilities for the department’s employees are adhered to, ensures their ongoing support through timely open, and honest communication, and provides performance assessment with active feedback.
• Ensures that employee skills are continually developed with a focus on proficiency, training, and career development.
• Ensure that all operational issues and concerns are communicated on time to the Chief Power Engineer and all appropriate management groups and individuals.
• Ensure that housekeeping and other schedules, including the department's operation and equipment checklists, are being followed and adhered to.
• Ensures that all necessary documentation relating to the safe and effective operation of the Steam Plant and associated systems and equipment is maintained to meet the requirements of all applicable legislation.
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of processing facility operations in the Mining industry including safety, maintenance, equipment, and staff utilization would be an asset.
• Previous supervisory experience in a high‑pressure steam plant.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively train and mentor employees.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Comfortable with a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent work ethic and attendance record.

Education:

• Minimum of 2 nd class Power Engineering certificate
• Consideration may be given to 3 rd class candidates with experience, who can show significant progress towards a 2 nd Class certificate.
