Job summary

OxyChem is seeking a 2nd Class Power Engineer - Relief Chief Power Engineer for our Thorold, Ontario facility. The role requires supervising engineers on shift, ensuring safe, efficient operations, and covering for the Chief Engineer during absences.

Candidate must hold a valid 2nd Class license with knowledge of TSSA regulations and plant utility systems. Power Engineering Diploma preferred; electrical and safety standards adherence is essential.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer license.
• Working towards 1st Class Power Engineer license is a definite asset.
• Knowledge of applicable TSSA regulations.
• Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or equivalent knowledge/experience.
• Strong knowledge of power generation/transmission and water/wastewater treatment processes.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Power Engineers on shift and ensure work is completed safely.
• Cover Chief Engineer and Shift Engineers during vacations or illnesses.
• Order chemicals, enter MWOs/PRs, assist with operator scheduling, write SOPs.
• Maintain utilities (steam, air, water, fire, waste) for uninterrupted production.
• Support HSE objectives and implement safety practices.

Ensures that work assigned to Power Engineers is complete and carried out in a safe manner. Coordinates work assignments and distributes and delegates tasks. · Covers Chief Engineer and Shift Engineers for vacations, illness, training or other absences as required. · Orders chemicals, enters MWO’s, and PR’s, assists with scheduling of operators, writes MOC’s as needed for changes. Assists in maintenance planning and project work, acts as the department Liaison for Delta V and Success Factors, prepares and writes up new SOP’s and re-writes old SOP’s and assists with training new employees · Ensures that all utilities, i.e. steam, air, water, fire and waste systems are supplied to plant for both consumption and uninterrupted production. Conducts daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. Use personal accountability to assist with carrying out duties, responsibilities and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices and procedures. Understand HSE policies and programs. Work safely, with respect to health and environmental requirements. **Qualifications:** · Must possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer’s License, knowledge of Operating Engineers Act, Boilers, Pressure Vessels and fuels. · Working towards the completion of the 1st Class Power Engineer license through TSSA is a definite asset. · Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations. · Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience. · Strong knowledge of power generation / transmission technology, water and waste water treatment including processes, procedures and related systems in a plant environment. · Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations. · Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-point, Outlook, and to conduct research using the internet. SAP knowledge / experience would be an asset. · Related Utilities management experience in plant operations with a focus on power technology, systems, processes and project management. · Must have related experience and be familiar with plant operations, systems, processes, procedures and experience with TSSA regulations on several levels. · Proven experience with diagnostic, analytical and problem solving to resolve issues effectively. Related experience in preparing reports and maintaining accurate records. Interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to deal with tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
