JBS Food Canada ULC in Brooks, AB is seeking a 2nd Class Power Engineer to operate and maintain the Brooks facility, including the boiler room and a large ammonia refrigeration plant.

The role requires ABSA 2nd Class certification, proven supervisory experience, strong communication, and the ability to lead safety-focused operations while optimizing energy use, supporting capital improvements, and coordinating with maintenance and production teams to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Valid ABSA 2nd Class Engineering certificate.
• Proven team leader and supervisor with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Familiar with government and regulatory agencies.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Ammonia refrigeration systems and natural gas fired steam boiler systems.
• Familiarity with system computer interfacing.
• Knowledge of PLC systems.
• Past experience in a preventative maintenance program.
• Ability to ensure safe and efficient operations of boiler plant and large ammonia refrigeration system.

Responsibilities

• Ensure total care and control of the Boiler Room and associated equipment.
• Ensure total care and control of a large ammonia refrigerated plant.
• Conduct daily plant inspections of ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems for safe and efficient operation.
• Record data and information for plant operation under the Chief Engineer’s jurisdiction.
• Pursue energy-use reductions across gas, electricity, water, and ammonia.
• Lead capital projects to improve operating performance with Maintenance Manager.
• Provide leadership by instilling safety, objectives, and measurements.
• Conduct diagnostic audits and coach plant management.
• Take on additional responsibilities as needed.

2nd CLASS POWER ENGINEER, BROOKS, ALBERTA

With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. We are currently seeking a 2nd Class Power Engineer to join our team at our main processing facility in Brooks, AB.

NOTE: This role will be located in BROOKS, AB.

You will:

• Ensure total care and control of the Boiler Room and associate ancillary equipment
• Ensure total care and control of a large ammonia refrigerated plant
• Ensure daily plant inspection of ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems and that all systems are operating in a safe and efficient manner
• Ensure the recording of data and all relevant information to the operation of the plant under the Chief Engineer’s jurisdiction
• Have a bias for action to reduce energy consumption be it gas, electricity, water, and ammonia usage
• Undertake capital projects to improve operating performance of the plant in consultation with the Maintenance Manager
• Provide leadership by instilling safety, objectives, and measurements
• Conduct detailed diagnostic audits of each plant using various processes and techniques and provides coaching and direction to the plant’s management team
• Take on additional responsibilities as position requires

You have:

• Valid (ABSA Certified) 2nd Class Engineering certificate
• Proven team leader, team player, committed to excellence, and positive attitude
• Familiar with government and regulatory agencies
• Demonstrated supervisory experience and strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge of Ammonia refrigeration systems and natural gas fired steam boiler systems
• Familiarity of system computer interfacing
• Knowledge of PLC systems
• Past experience working in a preventative maintenance program
• Ability to ensure safe and efficient operations of boiler plant and large ammonia refrigeration system
