Job summary

Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) seeks Educational Assistants to support students with diverse needs across multiple schools in the Guelph area. Positions are temporary full-time or part-time with varied hours, aligned with school needs.

Wages are $30.92 to $36.74 per hour, with vacation pay as per ESA. Start date is as soon as possible and end date is not to exceed June 30, 2026. Applicants from internal and external pools are welcome.

Qualifications

  • Educational Assistant Diploma, and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field of study
  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification is required for this position
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school-based experience is a definite asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training
  • Lifting/Positioning Training
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools

Responsibilities

  • Educational Assistants work with students with many diverse needs. This work provides support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student
  • Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of BMS.
  • Educational Assistants work with students both individually and/or in a group setting
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration
  • Other duties as assigned

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team for a temporary full-time/part-time opportunity in the capacity of Educational Assistant .

1.0 FTE Centennial Hylands Elementary School

0.5 FTE Centre Wellington District High School

1.0 FTE Elora Public School

1.0 FTE Glenbrook Elementary School

1.0 FTE Hyland Heights Elementary School

0.5 FTE John F Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute

1.0 FTE Laurelwoods Elementary School

1.0 FTE Primrose Elementary School

1.0 FTE Princess Elizabeth Public School

0.5 FTE Ross R McKay Public School

1.0 FTE Victoria Terrace Public School

Note: School location/geographical area cannot be guaranteed in perpetuity and are subject to change based on student and system needs

FTE and Hours:

0.5 FTE = 16.25 hours per week; part-time positions have varying start and end times and may include mornings, afternoons or alternating full days, dependent on the schools and system needs

1.0 FTE = 32.50 hours per week; full-time

Hourly Rate of Pay: $30.92 - $36.74 per hour, plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with the ESA; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Start Date: As soon as possible
End Date: Unknown end date not to exceed June 30, 2026
Board Information: 10-month position (yearly from September – June following the school year calendar); temporary; full-time/part-time; Educational Student Support Personnel (ESSP) & Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECE) Union

Reporting to the school Principal, the Educational Assistant must possess willingness, along with the physical ability, to work with all of our students who have many diverse needs.

  • Qualified casual ESSP Bargaining Unit employees
