Job summary

Lakeridge Health in Ajax is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Medicine Float Pool. You will provide direct patient care, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and participate in a multidisciplinary team across Medicine/Healthy Aging units.

This temporary full-time role spans 12-hour shifts and requires active RN licensure in Ontario. Responsibilities include accurate documentation, patient education, and adaptability to unit changes.

Qualifications

• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing).
• Registered Nurse Degree Diploma from an accredited university.
• Current B.C.L.S. certificate.
• Recent medical-surgical experience and evidence of recent related continuing education.
• Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enrol within 6 months of commencing in position and complete within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal patient care and perform vital sign assessment.

• Monitor telemetry and utilize IV setup as trained.

Wage Schedule: $41.150 - $58.980 per hour

This position is open to all qualified ONA staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 15 September 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 22 September 2026.

NOTE: There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work on all Medicine/Healthy Aging program units at Lakeridge Health Ajax. This includes 2E, 2W, 4E, 2N, 4W and surg units (subject to change if floor locations change)

Duties And Responsibilities

Reporting to Manager of Medicine Float Pool, the successful candidate will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IV's, monitoring telemetry (if CC1 prepared), setting up medical equipment as appropriate and other duties as assigned. The RN will participate as a member of the Float Pool, Multidisciplinary Team and the Nursing Team at the at the Ajax site on Medicine/Health Aging units. As an individual practitioner, the nurse will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. The nurse will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.

Qualifications

• Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
• Registered Nurse Degree Diploma from an accredited university;
• Current B.C.L.S. certificate;
• Recent medical-surgical experience and evidence of recent related continuing education
• Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enrol within 6 months of commencing in position and successfully complete within 18 months of commencing in position (reimbursement for the cost of the course will be provided upon providing proof of completion)
• Demonstrated self-motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education, leadership and related Clinical Specialties;
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments, patient care units and hospital sites within the Corporation;
• Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients with the use of mechanical lifts;
• Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care.
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community.
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public.
• Must have a satisfactory performance record
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this area; and
