Lakeridge Health Oshawa is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Child/Adolescent Mental Health unit. This regular part-time role involves day, evening, night shifts, with weekend work as scheduled, in a multidisciplinary team focused on youth mental health.

Responsibilities include assessing health status, contributing to treatment plans, delivering interventions, and documenting care while supporting patients and families. Ontario RN with current certification is required.

Qualifications

  • Registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS).
  • Certificate in Child & Adolescent Mental Health or Mental Health is an asset.
  • Experience in inpatient or community mental health for youth is preferred.

Responsabilités

  • Conduct physical and mental health assessments within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to treatment plans and deliver interventions for youth in the unit.
  • Assist with crisis assessment, medication administration, group work, and family support.
  • Document care and participate in patient care meetings; maintain required statistics.

Wage Schedule: $41.150 - $58.980 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse will conduct patient physical health and mental health assessment, contribute to the development of treatment plans and deliver interventions within the Child and Adolescent Inpatient unit. Interventions include crisis assessment and management, medication administration, facilitating group work and providing individual and family support/counselling/health teaching. The Registered Nurse will document all aspects of patient care and actively participate in patient care meetings. The Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining all relevant statistics.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registration (in good standing) with the College of Registered Nurses of Ontario;
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;
  • Current B.C.L.S;
  • Minimum of 3 years of Inpatient or Community Mental Health experience - Child and Adolescent Mental Health experience is preferred
  • Certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health or Mental Health is an asset;
  • Canadian Mental Health Nursing Psychiatric Nursing Certificate is preferred;
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in completing phsychical health assessments as well as mental health assessments on children and youth who have serious and persistent mental illnesses;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide therapeutic and psycho-educational interventions on a group and individual basis;
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental illness in children and adolescents and proven ability to create and implement care plans for children and youth with mental illness;
  • Demonstrated ability to assume a charge role;
  • Clear understanding of current best practice and evidence based interventions for children and youth with mental illness;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the area of psychopharmacological interventions for children and youth with mental illness, and proven ability to identify and effectively intervene with related side effects;
  • Effective crisis intervention skills;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Ability to demonstrate nursing leadership, exercise initiative and observe strict confidentiality;
  • Must have satisfactory performance record;
