Job summary

School District 91 is seeking a Relief Meal Program Worker at Babine Elementary Secondary School to support the daily meal operations. The role involves preparing and serving food, maintaining food safety, and assisting students during meal service.

The position is 5.3125 hours per day, four days per week (Monday–Thursday), starting September 8, 2026, and continuing until the regular employee returns, with responsibilities for ordering groceries, receiving goods, and coordinating daily lunch

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 (Dogwood Certificate) is required.
  • Current Food Safe certificate is required.
  • WHMIS certificate and familiarity with WorkSafeBC procedures are required.
  • Six months of relevant catering/kitchen experience is required.
  • Valid BC Driver's License Class 5 with good driving record is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist meal program at the school level including preparing and serving food.
  • Maintain food safety and assist in food preparation and serving to students.
  • Perform cooking tasks using kitchen equipment (stove, oven, dishwasher).
  • Support daily logistics: place grocery orders, receive deliveries, and coordinate lunch orders.

Summary

  • Contributes to the daily functions of the School District 91 Meal Program, in accordance with the District’s Strategic Education Plan.
  • Assists the Meal Program at the school level, including preparing and serving food, maintaining food safety, supporting students in food preparation and serving.
  • Performs cooking and food preparation tasks using various kitchen equipment including stove top, oven, and dishwasher.
  • Supports the daily logistics of the Meal Program including placing orders for groceries, accepting them on arrival, and coordinating daily lunch orders.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 (Dogwood Certificate).
  • A current “Food Safe” certificate.
  • WHMIS Certificate and familiarity with WorkSafeBC safety procedures.
  • Six (6) months of current relevant experience working in a catering/commercial kitchen environment.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License class 5 & an exemplary driving record as demonstrated by a current driver's abstract.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain a Criminal Record Check through the CRRP. Criminal Record Checks through your local RCMP detachment will not be accepted. This process is done online and can be a timely process. To speed up the process, we strongly recommend you obtain a BC Services Card Account as soon as possible.
