Nisga'a Elementary Secondary School

The Nisga'a School District No. 92 is seeking a Nisga'a Language teacher to work with K-8 students at Nisga'a Elementary Secondary School. Reporting directly to the principal, this is a full-timeposition starting September 2, 2025.

Located in the Nass Valley in Northwestern British Columbia, the Nisga'a School District encompasses the traditional treaty territory of the Nisga'a Nation. This region offers unparalleled opportunities for outdoor exploration and deep cultural engagement, making it a unique place to live, learn, and lead.

Role Overview

The teacher plans, prepares and engages students in lessons that guide and support their progression of learning, aligning their teaching with the First Nations Language Essentials (Ask Me) curricula, using frequent & differentiated assessment and feedback to support growth. Fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues is also a benefit. The role includes participating in professional development and adhering to school policies to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. Our school also engages in experiential opportunities where students, in multiage/cross grade groupings, focus on inquiry-based exploration, as well as on the land learning in and around Lisims (the Nass Valley).

Qualifications

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for). Must be legally permitted to work in Canada
  • Experience delivering an Intermediate learning program
  • Working knowledge of the learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies within the BC Curriculum

  • Support the goals of the school and district through a collaborative and positive approach.
  • Use technology confidently to support instruction, assessment, communication, and reporting.
Additional incentives:

  • Rent rebates/subsidies, furnished, affordable housing ($350 to $600 depending on size)
  • Competitive salary ($69,758 - $114,685)
  • Recruitment and Retention allowance for all teachers ($2,947 paid over 10 months of the school year, based on FTE).
  • Eligible successful candidates will receive a $10,000 Provincial Signing Bonus
  • Mentoring and coaching for new teachers.
