Overview of the Opportunity

The Pre-School Teacher at Highlands Early Learning and Child Care Centre is responsible for guiding and supervising children enrolled in the Child Care Program in all areas of development, under the direction of the Supervisor and in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act and the philosophy of the Directly Operated Child Care programs. Work involves direct interaction with children and can be physically demanding.

Required Qualifications Include
  • Secondary School Diploma.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a related childcare field.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deal professionally with peers and parents in a friendly and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid immunization or equivalent as per public health and Child Care Early Years Act.
  • Valid Standard First Aid certification, including Infant and Child CPR.
  • Ability to plan and implement inclusive, stimulating activities suitable for children’s ages and needs, in accordance with legislation and curriculum.
  • Ensure health and safety of children.
  • Actively observe and teach children in various settings and weather conditions, year-round.
  • Work involves physical activities such as lifting children and equipment, and sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture.
  • Rotate shifts as required by the Supervisor.

The position is a full-time contract ending August 21, 2026, located at Highlands Early Learning and Child Care Centre in Emsdale.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain the learning environment and appearance of the Centre.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, parents, guardians, and the Supervisor.
  • Record legislative requirements.
