Mental Health Nurse Resource Team

This position involves working days, evenings, nights, extended, and weekend shifts. The shift schedule is not guaranteed.

Reporting to the Manager of Forensic Mental Health, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to complex patient populations on the Adult, Forensic, and Child & Adolescent Mental Health units. As part of interprofessional healthcare teams, the Mental Health Nursing Resource Team (MHNRT) Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will practice within the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the philosophy of patient and family-centered care, and the mission, vision, values, and policies of the organization.

Qualifications:
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current certification in BCLS
  • Recent knowledge of forensic mental health nursing in an acute care setting
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Code of Canada Part XX.1 Mental Disorder, the Mental Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act
  • Knowledge of principles of psychosocial rehabilitation or a similar recovery-based model of care
Preferences:
  • Certification or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing
Additional Qualifications for Registered Nurses:
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current certification in BCLS
  • Recent experience in mental health nursing in an acute care setting
  • Ability to use the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) for individualized care planning
  • Ability to collaborate and provide consultation to Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs)
  • Ability to recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action
  • Strong interprofessional and communication skills
Salary Range:

$37.175 to $38.160

Additional Requirements:
  • Successful candidates will need to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination as per Health Canada-approved doses.
