The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on steps that range from $68,917.73 - $91,624.25. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $80,254.49 annually.

This is a designated position open only to members of the Black/ African Nova Scotian community.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
The African Canadian Community and Cultural Liaison Coordinator works with NSCC's Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion Services office on cultural initiatives, anti-Black racism and Black inclusion projects. The Coordinator also works with Student Affairs to coordinate the delivery of services that aim to create an inclusive and safe learning environment specifically for African Canadian students.
The Coordinator will work with African Canadian communities and organizations to ensure a smooth transition of African Canadian students into NSCC. They will collaborate with regional Student Services Teams and support students throughout their student lifecycle, providing cultural supports informed by student development theory, adult education principles, African Canadian history, lived experience, and Africentric learning principles.
This role involves providing culturally relevant advising services for African Canadian students, building strong community connections, and supporting culturally responsive student services, inclusive events, and processes that recognize their unique needs. The Coordinator will also support the development of Black and African Canadian student networks and work with community organizations such as the African Canadian Services Division, Council of African-Canadian Education, Black Educators Association, and Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute.
Although based in Halifax, the position involves working at campuses to strengthen community ties and student support.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in African Canadian/Black Studies, Social Sciences, Adult Education, Social Work, Humanities, or related fields, or equivalent post-secondary credentials.
- At least 3 years of recent occupational experience in Student Affairs, Adult Education, Social Work, Community Development, or African Canadian/Black Youth Programming.
- Experience working with African Canadian students and communities, and building partnerships with related organizations, is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, video conferencing tools, and database applications like PeopleSoft, LAMPS, or Banner.
- Experience coordinating workshops and supporting student services.
- Extensive experience working within Black/African Nova Scotian communities.
