Job Title: Laboratory Technologist

Status: Regular Part Time

Department: Immunohematology - Port Perry

Program: Laboratory Services

Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends - 8 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Port Perry

Wage Schedule: $36.840 - $50.240 per hour

Duties And Responsibilities

Performing routine and specialized test procedures in Chemistry, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine; performing pre-analytical procedures including phlebotomy, specimen management and ECGs; organizing workflow to maintain performance standards of quantity and quality; observing, troubleshooting and reporting problems with methods, equipment etc. to his/her supervisor; ensuring cleanliness of equipment and immediate work area; following established safety and infection control procedures; participating in student/staff training programs, as required; and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS);
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO);
  • Current theoretical and technical knowledge in Hematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry;
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments and their interrelationships;
  • Working and technical knowledge of the electronic and/or mechanical equipment necessary to perform routine and specialized testing;
  • Proven problem solving skills, with the ability to recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives and determine solutions;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, deductive reasoning with attention to detail;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations;
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure good and prompt patient care;
  • Physically capable of performing bending, lifting, turning frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks;
  • Recent experience in a Core Laboratory, preferred;
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions

Conditions Of Employment

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.
