Job Summary

Reporting to the Health System Executive, Integrated Care, Medicine & Aging, the Director, Long-Term Care Operations is responsible for the overall leadership and operational management of Lakeridge Gardens. This role oversees all facets of long-term care service delivery, including staffing, compliance, hospitality services, resident experience, and financial management. The Director ensures alignment with legislative and regulatory standards, leads interdisciplinary teams, and fosters a culture of safety, excellence, and resident-centered care. In addition to strategic planning and operational oversight, the Director provides leadership for food and dietary services, environmental services, and program support-ensuring these essential services are delivered efficiently and enhance the quality of life for residents. The role also contributes to organizational performance and supports Lakeridge Health's vision for innovative, integrated seniors' care. Collaboration with clinical program directors within the Healthy Aging portfolio and engagement with key internal and external stakeholders is essential to ensure coordinated, efficient, and resident-focused service delivery across the continuum of care.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Management Responsibilities

" Provide dynamic leadership and oversight for the daily operations of Lakeridge Gardens, ensuring the seamless coordination of all non-clinical departments, including food and dietary services, environmental services, facilities, and program support.

" Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Ensure effective staffing models, performance management systems, and professional development opportunities are in place to support team success.

" Oversee the resident admissions and discharge process in partnership with Ontario Health atHome, ensuring timely transitions, continuity of care, and alignment with resident needs and preferences.

" Serve as the primary liaison for resident and family councils, promoting open communication, transparency, and a commitment to service excellence. Address concerns with empathy and ensure timely resolution.

" Ensure full compliance with all applicable legislation and regulatory requirements, including the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and MOHLTC standards. Lead the home's preparation for inspections, audits, and accreditation reviews.

" Champion a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for residents, staff, and visitors, aligned with Lakeridge Health's values and commitment to quality care.

  • Strategic Planning and Leadership

" Lead the development and execution of strategic and operational plans that align with Lakeridge Health's Healthy Aging portfolio and broader system priorities, ensuring that long-term care services are responsive, innovative, and future-focused.

" Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement long-term human resources strategies, including workforce planning, leadership development, and succession planning to ensure organizational sustainability.

" Represent Lakeridge Gardens in internal and external forums, building and maintaining strong partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and government stakeholders to advance shared goals.

" Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation by leading quality improvement initiatives, evaluating outcomes, and implementing best practices that enhance resident care and operational performance.

" Promote alignment with Lakeridge Health's mission, vision, and values by leading change management initiatives, engaging staff in strategic priorities, and fostering a sense of purpose and pride across the team.

  • Organizational Efficiency and Effectiveness

" Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of capital and operating budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability, resource optimization, and alignment with organizational goals.

" Monitor financial performance and operational metrics, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.

" Lead the implementation of operational measures and quality improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery, streamline workflows, and improve resident satisfaction.

" Develop, maintain, and test the home's Emergency Management Plan, ensuring preparedness for a range of scenarios and compliance with all safety protocols and legislative requirements.

" Leverage data and performance indicators to inform decision-making, evaluate program effectiveness, and drive operational excellence across all departments.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

" A Masters helor's degree in a health-related discipline, Business Administration, Gerontology, or a related field is required.

" A minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a senior management role within a long-term care or similar healthcare environment.

" Certification as a Long-Term Care Administrator through the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) or AdvantAge Ontario (formerly OANHSS) is required.

Skills & Competencies

" Extensive experience in operational leadership within long-term care or complex continuing care environments, preferably across integrated health systems, with a demonstrated ability to manage complex service delivery models and ensure consistent, high-quality resident experiences.

" Proven expertise in financial stewardship, facilities oversight, human resources management, quality improvement, and strategic planning, with a strong track record of driving operational efficiency and organizational performance.

" Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex operational challenges, interpret performance data, and implement data-informed strategies that enhance service delivery and resource utilization.

" In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, including the Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulation 79/10, MOHLTC Standards, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, fire safety regulations, and building codes.

" Familiarity with collective agreements, Accreditation Canada Standards, and the Regulated Health Professions Act, with the ability to apply these frameworks in a long-term care operational context.

" Demonstrated expertise in integrating Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care compliance requirements, the Ministry of Labour's Safe at Work Ontario program, and Accreditation Canada processes into a comprehensive quality and risk management system.

" Proven ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements to ensure organizational compliance, resident safety, and continuous quality improvement.

" Demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with internal leaders, system partners, vendors, and cross-sector stakeholders, fostering collaboration and alignment across the continuum of care.

" Experience leading the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of operational initiatives within large healthcare or regional systems, resulting in measurable improvements in service quality, efficiency, and resident satisfaction.

" A proven track record of fostering positive relationships with service providers and achieving results that enhance organizational performance and stakeholder confidence.
