Job Title : Medical Gas Respiratory Technician

Status : Casual Part Time

Department : Community Respiratory Services

Program : Business Development

8 and 12 Hour Shifts; Days, Evenings, Weekends, On-Call Schedule (Subject to Change)

Location : Lakeridge Health Oshawa

Wage Schedule : $33.940 - $39.070 per hour

This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing June 17, 2025 and closing at 11 : 59 pm on June 24, 2025.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and experienced Medical Gas Respiratory Technician to join our team. In this position you will have the opportunity to use your extensive knowledge and expertise to help us develop, implement and maintain innovative Respiratory Services department practices that will meet the current and future needs of Lakeridge Health.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Under the direction of the Manager, Community Respiratory Services or designated Corporate Senior Registered Respiratory Therapist, the Medical Gas Technician will be responsible for providing a wide range of technical duties in support of operations of Community Respiratory Services (CSR). The primary function of the role is to initiate and maintain oxygen delivery systems provided to clients for the provision of home oxygen therapy. The Medical Gas Technician will maintain patient oxygen-supply deliveries and transfill portable oxygen cylinders. In addition, the MGT will be required to maintain all technical systems modalities associated with home, portable and emergency oxygen systems.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • current certification of training as a Medical Gas / Respiratory Technician
  • successful completion of a recognized program and / or training in a related field such as

health sciences / mechanical / electronics technology or equivalent combination of education

  • and experience;
  • current certification in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods / Material Handling; Or will get one within first week of employment.
  • proof of a valid Ontario Drivers "G" class license with a 3 year incident free current Driver's Abstract Document;
  • proven advanced in-depth technical and theoretical knowledge of safe medical gas
  • distribution and applications;
  • must have mechanical knowledge and skills to facilitate repair and maintenance of medical
  • equipment;
  • expert knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional methodologies, technology-enabled design and learning methods
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and as a strong team member with excellent interpersonal skills for a client focused environment;
  • proven physically capable of walking extensively; climbing stairs on a regular basis; lifting and transferring oxygen cylinders up to and / or over 22.7 kgs with reaching to accomplish tasks;
  • demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;
  • demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
