Job Title: Laboratory Technologist

Status: Regular Full Time

Department: Haematology - Bowmanville

8 Hour Shifts, days/evenings/nights/weekends Schedule (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Bowmanville

Wage Schedule: $36.840 - $50.240 per hour

This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 12 June 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 19 June 2025.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Registered Medical Lab Technologist to join our team. In this position, you will have the opportunity to use your extensive knowledge and expertise to develop, implement, and maintain innovative Laboratory Department practices that will meet the current and future needs of Lakeridge Health.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialized test procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank.
  • Perform pre-analytical procedures including phlebotomy, specimen management, and ECGs.
  • Organize workflow to maintain performance standards of quantity and quality.
  • Observe, troubleshoot, and report problems with methods and equipment to Lab Supervisor.
  • Ensure cleanliness of equipment and immediate work area.
  • Follow established safety and infection control procedures.
  • Participate in student/staff training programs, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS).
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Current theoretical and technical knowledge in Hematology, Blood Transfusion, and Biochemistry.
  • Proven in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships.
  • Experience and technical knowledge of the electronic and/or mechanical equipment necessary to perform routine and specialized testing.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives, and determine solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, deductive reasoning, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively perform under pressure in emergency situations.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure excellent prompt patient care.
  • Physically capable of performing bending, lifting, and turning frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks.
  • Recent experience in a Core Laboratory, preferred.
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.
