CUPE

Job Title: Perioperative Support

Status: Regular Part Time

Department: Ambulatory Day/Night

Program: Surgical Program

Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends; 8 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Port Perry

Wage Schedule: $28.340 - $29.620 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 1 May 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 8 May 2025.

Duties And Responsibilities

The Surgical Suite Perioperative Support is an integral member of the Surgical Program and Multidisciplinary team, working in close collaboration with other team members in providing support for the Surgical Suite. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Transporting patients and assisting with their positioning and lifting as required.
  2. Maintaining and reporting the need for repairs of equipment.
  3. Transporting, setting up, and cleaning equipment as required.
  4. Transporting specimens and performing errands to departments.
  5. Assisting with ordering, receiving, and stocking supplies.
  6. Replenishing carts and rooms with supplies.
  7. Cleaning the Surgical Suite following recommended guidelines.
  8. Emptying and transporting garbage and linen.
  9. Changing sharps containers, defrosting and cleaning refrigerators, microwaves, and flash autoclaves.
  10. Preparing soiled case carts for transportation to SPD in a timely manner.
  11. Performing other duties and tasks as required.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of the CSAO course required.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level required for the job.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions relating to supplies and specimens.
  • Ability to work as part of a surgical team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
  • Physical capability to perform duties including walking extensively, climbing stairs, and lifting/transferring patients by stretcher, bed, and wheelchair.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new situations, including life-threatening situations.
  • Availability to work all shifts and weekends.
  • Surgical Suite experience as an SA is preferred.

  • Understanding of and commitment to safety programs and practices, including participation in in-service education.
Conditions Of Employment

The employment terms are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
