Manager Environmental Services

Status: Regular Full Time

8 Hour Shifts, Days Schedule (Subject to Change)

Wage Schedule: $49.490 - $67.130 per hour

Position Summary

The Environmental Services Manager is accountable for managing daily operations and overseeing/leading the work of support services including Environmental Services, Patient Transportation, and Waste Management. The role ensures high standards of service delivery in compliance with legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures. It involves managing human, financial, and material resources, handling projects within the Environmental Services portfolio, and promoting a safe, clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Actively manage staff, including recruitment, onboarding, training, evaluation, and performance management, ensuring adherence to collective agreements and labor practices.
  2. Develop and maintain staff schedules, ensure service needs are met, and manage payroll in accordance with collective agreements.
  3. Handle grievance processes, represent the organization at mediations/arbitrations, and support collective bargaining efforts.
  4. Implement training programs, manage workplace accommodations, and analyze staffing needs.
  5. Coach supervisors and complete performance appraisals and work plans.
  6. Plan and maintain work systems, procedures, and policies to optimize staff and resource performance.
  7. Coordinate daily cleaning schedules, monitor quality, and develop/updating SOPs.
  8. Review routines and systems for operational alignment and participate in meetings and projects.
  9. Interact with vendors, support special projects, and foster a culture of excellence through training and mentorship.
  10. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, act as liaison with regulatory bodies, and oversee safety protocols.
  11. Conduct inspections, develop action plans for infection control, and analyze data for quality improvement.
  12. Manage budgets, develop policies, and oversee equipment maintenance and inventory.
  13. Develop departmental plans, generate performance reports, and analyze trends.
  14. Ensure policies reflect departmental roles and maintain high sanitation standards through protocols and procedures.
  15. Work with other departments on new initiatives, space changes, and contract compliance.
  16. Maintain knowledge of relevant regulations, safety standards, and accreditation requirements.
  17. Communicate effectively with staff, management, suppliers, and vendors, and utilize computer skills including Excel, PowerBI, and EPIC.
  18. Identify issues promptly and maintain high standards of cleanliness and quality control.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree, college diploma, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years relevant healthcare experience.
  • CESM certification or related credential is an asset.

Leadership and Management Skills:

  • Proven leadership, team motivation, conflict resolution, and experience managing budgets.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and commitment to workplace health and safety.

Cleaning and Sanitation Expertise:

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment.

Compliance Knowledge:

  • Understanding of environmental regulations, safety standards, and accreditation standards.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills, with experience in Excel, PowerBI, EPIC as assets.

Other Skills:

  • Problem-solving, attention to detail, and commitment to high standards.
