Job summary

A leading school district is seeking a 1.0 FTE Student Support Teacher, Teacher Librarian, and Prep Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This temporary position involves supporting students with diverse abilities, collaborating with staff, and adapting curriculum to meet individual needs. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Education, BC Certification, and experience in Special Education. Applications are due by May 22, 2025.

0.8 FTE Student Support Teacher (SST), Teacher Librarian, Prep Teacher (RCS)

0.2 FTE Prep Teacher (KES)

Temporary: September 1, 2025 – December 19, 2025, or full return of the incumbent

NOTE: This assignment may be extended.

Qualifications
  • BC Certification
  • Bachelor of Education with a focus on Special Education or equivalent training including coursework in:
  • Students with diverse abilities and disabilities, including students with ASD
  • Assessment/testing theory and practice
  • Strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum to meet diverse needs
  • Previous teaching experience in Special Education at elementary level
  • Experience teaching at elementary level preferred
  • Expertise in teaching and behavioral management strategies
  • Knowledge of evaluation and instructional material selection for diverse needs
  • Knowledge of behavior support planning and safety plans
  • Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and facilitate intervention programs
  • Ability to coordinate meetings with staff, itinerants, and outside agencies
  • Understanding of child and youth mental health issues
  • Proficiency in assessments including classroom observation and diagnostic teaching
  • Ability to develop and evaluate IEPs in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Experience with Woodcock Johnson IV Achievement Test battery
  • Knowledge of computer-based learning software (e.g., Read and Write, G Suite, Moodle, Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of assistive software (e.g., Boardmaker, SETBC, ARC BC)
  • Ability to facilitate use of school's Sensory Lab
  • Experience supervising Educational Assistants/Child Care Workers
  • Understanding of inclusion principles and supporting an inclusive school community
  • Ability to support, model, co-teach, and collaborate in inclusive classrooms
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

The annual salary ranges from $60,337 to $111,450, based on experience and qualifications as per the collective agreement.
