A municipal department in the Township of Esquimalt is seeking an auxiliary full-time Recreation Programmer, focusing on fitness programs for a 12-month term. The ideal candidate will be responsible for program management, staff supervision, and community engagement. This role requires a diploma in Recreation Administration and strong customer service skills.

The Esquimalt Recreation Centre is a multi-purpose wellness and community recreation facility. Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm “lifestyle pool” and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programsto choose from.

The Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill an auxiliary full-time Recreation Programmer position responsible for the Fitness portfolio for a term of approximately 12 months. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, this position requires an exceptional team player with the ability to maintain a high standard of customer service while performing the following duties:
Planning, development, implementation, scheduling, promotion, and evaluation of recreational programs, services, and special events for the community
Hire, train, assign, and review the work of staff involved in Fitness programs/services; ensure schedules, procedures, and safety standards are met; assume responsibility for staff development and performance appraisals; create and implement in-service training programs
Propose initiatives for the promotion, advertising, and marketing of recreation programs; prepare promotional material such as flyers, posters, press releases, newspaper ads, social media, and seasonal brochures; respond to inquiries and concerns from the public regarding recreation programs.
The ideal candidate will have:
Salary: $42.69 – $46.05 hourly ($37.45 - $40.40 plus 14% in lieu of benefits; 2024 rates)
