Job Overview
- Coordinate a multi-functional workforce in the execution of the Darlington D2701 Vacuum Building Outage.
- Administer work operations and direct multiple trade groups involved in civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical functions related to recurring temporary alterations and outage maintenance programs.
- Plan day-to-day construction work activities with vendors and work management, in consultation with the Construction Coordinator and/or Manager of Contract Management.
- Evaluate requirements for specific phases and sequences of work, determine the most efficient means, necessary equipment and materials, and the work force needed.
- Coordinate and monitor construction work, providing explanations on responsibilities, installations, equipment utilization, and processes.
- Assign work to contract monitors, provide guidance on problems, and follow up to ensure safety, quality, and accuracy.
- Assist in contract management tasks, including overseeing contractor work regarding safety, quality, schedule, and costs, and maintaining progress logs.
- Ensure contractor safety certificates and documentation are maintained and compliant with governance.
- Support pre-job briefings, ensuring staff are familiar with procedures, safety, costs, and schedules.
- Verify work meets drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
- Monitor and validate field progress, support studies and corrective actions, and conduct investigations as needed.
- Coordinate with staff, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to minimize conflicts and resolve issues.
- Be familiar with building trade union contracts and jurisdictional issues impacting the project.
- Ensure vendor compliance with safety plans according to policies and regulations, promote safe working practices.
- Conduct safety meetings and job safety analyses, address violations, and improve safety conditions.
- Understand and apply quality/control standards and regulatory codes, especially in nuclear pressure boundary work.
- Manage equipment and system releases, control changes, and address non-conformance issues.
- Implement and ensure compliance with quality control procedures, review verification records, and recommend program changes.
Qualifications
Education
- Detailed technical knowledge of contracts, building codes, inspections, electrical equipment, and control systems related to construction in nuclear facilities, gained through Grade XII plus 3 years of specialized study or an equivalent skilled trade apprenticeship.
- Familiarity with manufacturers’ manuals and specifications for equipment operation.
- On-the-job experience for specialized knowledge of plant conditions and maintenance activities.
- Understanding of system operation, fabrication, and modification requirements.
- Supervisory experience in planning, organizing, and scheduling staff work.
Experience
- Experience in maintenance, modification, and construction in a nuclear plant, managing multi-union workforces.
- Project management and contract administration experience.
- Providing work direction, ensuring adherence to plans, schedules, safety, and budgets.
- Experience with outages, especially vacuum building outages, is an asset.
- Over 10 years of nuclear experience is preferred.
