VICTIM SERVICES CASEWORKER

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled professional to provide direct support to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. This specialized role focuses on delivering crisis intervention, emotional support, and practical assistance at the scene of incidents such as crimes, domestic disputes, and other critical events.

In addition to immediate support, the successful candidate will offer ongoing follow-up services and court support. Responsibilities include connecting clients with community resources, making referrals for services such as counselling, financial aid, childcare, and legal assistance, and maintaining detailed client files. The role also involves researching local support services, guiding and supporting volunteers, and building relationships with partner agencies to ensure timely and effective support for those impacted by trauma.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Completion of the 12th school grade, supplemented by courses in social sciences such as sociology, psychology, criminology, or related disciplines, plus considerable related experience in a police environment, victim services program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of procedures, rules, and regulations related to the work.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and terminology used in documenting client contacts and maintaining files.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Sound knowledge of available community resources.
  • Working knowledge of court and police procedures related to the work.
  • Ability to provide direct services to victims and witnesses, including emotional support, information, and referrals, often under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to prepare records related to the work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Sound working knowledge of relevant computer software applications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATES

  • RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence for British Columbia.

HOURS OF WORK

This position is based on a seven-hour workday, thirty-five hours per week, between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. It may require working more than five consecutive shifts or more than 35 hours per week without overtime pay, except for hours exceeding 70 in a two-week period, which are paid overtime.

Additional Information

This is an auxiliary position with no ongoing hours. The role involves working varying shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and being on call for incidents in progress.
