AQUATIC LEADER

POSITION OVERVIEW

Join our team at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre and Hammond Outdoor Pool as a Regular Full-Time Aquatic Leader! We're seeking passionate individuals who thrive in a fast-paced aquatic environment and are eager to develop their leadership skills.

As an Aquatic Leader, you'll play a key role in our operations, impacting our team and customer experience. Your responsibilities include mentoring staff, managing challenging situations, lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, and administrative support. You will be a vital part of our aquatics team.

In This Role You Will:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Grade 12 and completion of a post-secondary certificate in a related field, plus aquatic leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of lifesaving, NLS standards, Water Safety Instructor standards, CPR, first aid, and teaching techniques related to aquatics.
  • Understanding of rules, regulations, and administrative practices relevant to aquatic services.
  • Knowledge of aquatics and recreation program principles and objectives.
  • Familiarity with pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorinating, heating, and related equipment.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and promote aquatic programs and provide leadership and instruction.
  • Experience in staff recruitment, training, and supervision.
  • Capacity to assist in coordinating aquatic programs at indoor/outdoor facilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse groups and the public.
  • Ability to lead public relations efforts with facility users.
  • Initiative and judgment to work independently on program development and implementation.
  • Competence in using materials and equipment for pool maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Ability to act as a supervisor during short absences within defined limits.
  • Experience in budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • First aid and emergency response skills.
  • Proficiency in preparing reports, maintaining records, and performing clerical tasks.
  • Ability to oversee pool operations and supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated aquatic skills and instructional ability according to professional standards.
  • Capacity to perform duties for extended periods and deal courteously with staff and the public.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
  • Lifesaving Society - National Lifeguard (NL) Award – Pool Option
  • Lifesaving Society – Swim Instructor (SI)
  • Lifesaving Society – Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) Award
  • Pool Operator Level 1
  • CPR, Level C/ AED
  • Standard First Aid (SFA)
HOURS OF WORK

Positions are based on an 8-hour day, 40-hour week, which may include working more than five consecutive days or more than 40 hours per week without overtime, except as mandated by law.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The successful candidate must complete a Police Information Check prior to employment (not required during application but upon hiring).
