About

We're looking for an energetic and innovative Recreation Manager to join our leadership team at the City of Maple Ridge. If you're passionate about community building, program development, and creating welcoming spaces for everyone — this is your chance to make a difference.

What You’ll Do:

You’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of our Community Services in our busy recreation centre, lead a diverse team of recreation staff, and help design programs that serve all ages and interests. From strategic planning and staff development to budget oversight and community engagement — you’ll have the freedom to lead with creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, and impact.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Business Management, or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a facility management role within a recreation environment; Facility management experience within a municipal setting preferred. Standard First Aid, CPR and AED Certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of the best practices, policies, procedures, and methodologies used in the operation and management of recreation and community services.
  • Thorough knowledge of public recreation delivery systems and experience in community development–based service delivery.
  • Ability to apply community development principles in collaboration with staff and the public and aligns recreation service benefits with social planning objectives.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strategic internal and external partnerships.
  • Ability to influence others in the creation and delivery of programs, funding, and research initiatives.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, schools, public sector and union representatives, officials, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of budgetary forecasting and control including coordinating lifecycle and long-term capital plans.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and functions and of the facilities, areas and equipment required for a wide range of recreational services.
  • Ability to interpret reports and to provide advice and guidance on a variety of regulatory, legislative, and administrative matters.
  • Strong time management and cost containment skills in directing day-to-day operations and managing projects.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and lead the implementation, evaluation, and measurement of diversified recreational services, aquatic services, special events and projects.
  • Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate team performance, including motivating staff, supporting career development, setting productivity standards, and conducting performance evaluations.
