SENIOR BYLAW COMPLIANCE OFFICER

Position Overview

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Bylaw Compliance Officer to join our dedicated team. In this supervisory position, you will lead a team of bylaw officers, providing guidance and support while actively participating in fieldwork. Responsibilities include responding to complex bylaw complaints, conducting inspections, and playing a key role in business licensing. In This Role You Will:
Desirable Training and Experience

Completion of Grade 12 education, supplemented by bylaw enforcement courses and sound experience in inspectional and enforcement work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Supervisory experience in a unionized work environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant bylaws and regulations related to municipal operations such as zoning, nuisances, signage, garbage, animals, buildings, and weed control.
  • Sound understanding of bylaws related to business licensing.
  • Knowledge of investigational and enforcement procedures, including court evidence preparation.
  • Familiarity with city street addresses and geography.
  • Ability to supervise and guide staff, investigate complaints, and enforce bylaws with tact and sound judgment.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to present evidence in court and conduct oneself professionally in legal settings.
Licenses & Certificates

Class 5 Driver's License - Province of British Columbia

Hours of Work

Work hours are based on operational needs and may be adjusted. The position involves a compressed work schedule of four 10.5-hour days, including a 30-minute unpaid break, rotating between day and afternoon shifts, Wednesday through Saturday.

Additional Information

The ideal candidate will be aware of and sensitive to a diverse community. Must be capable of problem-solving, investigating complaints, and enforcing bylaws with tact and sound judgment. The role involves outdoor work in various weather conditions, standing, walking, and driving, alongside some office work.
