Position: Supported Child Development Consultant
Location: Parksville
Hours: 35 hours/week (temporary to December 2026, or return of incumbent)
Salary: $38.68
Start Date: ASAP

We are looking for a Supported Child Development (SCD) Consultant to join our Child Development Services team! Ideally, this individual will be a collaborative team player with experience working within a family-centered, child-focused, multi-disciplinary team.

Description Of Position

The SCD program supports children with developmental needs to enhance their access to early intervention and developmentally appropriate materials and strategies within preschool and childcare settings. Supports for children, families and childcare providers may include consultation, strategies to support progress towards a child’s goals, materials to assist a child to be included in the childcare center and one to one or shared support, as well as capacity building and professional development to support childcare and preschool staff.

Reporting to: Child Development Service Team Leader
General Responsibilities
  • Provides direct and indirect services for the designated caseload.
  • Collaborate with the Child Development Services team to provide integrated, family-centered service delivery for shared clients.
  • Assists the family by providing strategies that can be implemented to support the child’s goals, both in the home and childcare setting.
  • Supports families in coordinating services both internally and externally.
Program-specific Responsibilities
  • Supports childcare providers in the inclusion of children with support needs via consultation, strategy suggestions, materials, professional development and capacity building, and provision of additional staffing supports when necessary and available.
  • Collaborates with SCD Assistants or staff contracted via the childcare setting to assist with the planning and provision of inclusive strategies to support the child within the childcare setting.
  • Offers groups to support the needs of children on the caseload and their families (Preschool Readiness, Circle of Security etc.).
Physical Demands of Job: Lifting/pulling/pushing - 75%, Walking/moving around - 75%, Sitting - 50%, Time spent outside - 50%
Cognitive Demands of Job: Independent work - 25%, Task memorization - 25%, Changing priorities/deadlines - 25%, Writing/reading - 25%
Qualifications
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in a child development related field – Mandatory.
  • Three years experience working with children with support needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A clear criminal record check – Mandatory.
