Position: Child and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) Coordinator
Location: Parksville
Hours: 35 hours/week (permanent, full-time)
Salary: $33.77
Start Date: ASAP

We are looking for a CYSN Coordinator to join our Child Development Services team! Ideally, this individual will be a collaborative team player with experience working within a family-centered, child-focused, multi-disciplinary team.

Description Of Position
The CYSN Coordinator develops and implements programming to engage children with support needs between the ages of 6 -18 years of age and their families. The CYSN Coordinator primarily provides programming in group settings in which children acquire life, recreation, socialization and pre-vocational skills. Children have opportunities to meet friends and engage in a variety of activities. The CYSN Coordinator also provides opportunities for sibling and family activities, as well as parent/caregiver support groups and activities. Additionally, the CYSN Coordinator provides individualized sessions for some CYSN clients who are unable to attend groups. Due to the population served, groups for this program are typically delivered outside of school hours.

Reporting to: Child Development Service Team Leader

General Responsibilities

  • Provides group-based and individual services to support the ongoing development and life skills of children and youth with support needs.
  • Assists families in identifying and supporting the needs of the child and family.
  • Provides group opportunities that allow for siblings and parent/caregiver participation (family paint nights, picnics etc.).
  • Engage a family centered lens and work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Program-specific Responsibilities

  • Plans and provides developmentally appropriate group and/or individual activities for children with support needs with a focus on life, recreation, socialization and pre-vocational skills.
  • Assists the family by providing strategies they can implement to support the child/youth’s goals as required/requested.
  • Supports parents/guardians in accessing external services as required.

Qualifications

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in child and youth care, education, or another related discipline - Mandatory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A clear criminal record check - Mandatory.
