Job description

Clerk 2 Position Overview

We are seeking a self-motivated, organized, and service-oriented professional to provide clerical relief support across various departments within the City of Maple Ridge. Assignments may vary from one day to several weeks, covering short-term leaves, special projects, or specific assignments. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong knowledge of clerical practices and procedures, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience in marketing, graphic design, payroll, minute taking, and/or cashiering is considered an asset.

The incumbent will provide clerical relief throughout the organization, supporting departments such as Engineering and Public Works, Planning, Development Services, Finance, Community Development, IT, Legislative Services, Parks, Recreation, & Culture, and Police Services. Responsibilities include assisting managers, supervisors, employees, and visitors to ensure positive and productive interactions.

Education and Experience

Successful completion of secondary education, supplemented by administrative and computer courses, plus related experience preferably in a Public Service Agency. An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of services, functions, procedures, by-laws, and regulations relevant to department operations;
  • Understanding of modern office practices and procedures;
  • Effective and courteous communication with the public and other departments;
  • Ability to perform non-complex arithmetic calculations;
  • Proficiency in operating office equipment;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel);
  • Accurate data entry skills, including bookkeeping and accounting tasks;
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong organizational, customer service, and communication skills;
  • Team player with a proactive approach to exceeding expectations;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Knowledge of clerical practices such as formatting, agenda writing, and minute taking;
  • Experience uploading and publishing content;
  • Ability to prepare, review, and process various documents and reports.

Additional experience in marketing, graphic design, finance, payroll, legislative services, cashiering, Tempest System, or Amanda System is an asset.
