Job Title: Registered Nurse (x2)
Status: Regular Full Time
Department: MEDICINE FLOAT POOL
Program: Medicine
12 Hour Shifts - DDNN (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa
Wage Schedule: $39.070 - $56 per hour

This position is open to all qualified ONA staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 31 December 2024 and closing at 11:59 pm on 8 January 2025.

NOTE: There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work on all Oshawa Hospital Medicine program units. This includes G9, G5, G1, F4, C7, C6, C5 (subject to change)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Manager of Medicine Float Pool, the successful candidate will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IV's, monitoring telemetry (if CC1 prepared), setting up medical equipment as appropriate and other duties as assigned. The RN will participate as a member of the Float Pool, Multidisciplinary Team and the Nursing Team at the Oshawa site on Medicine program units. As an individual practitioner, the nurse will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. The nurse will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  2. Registered Nurse Degree Diploma from an accredited university;
  3. Current B.C.L.S. certificate;
  4. Recent medical-surgical experience and evidence of recent related continuing education;
  5. Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enroll within 6 months of commencing in position and successfully complete within 18 months of commencing in position (reimbursement for the cost of the course will be provided upon providing proof of completion);
  6. Demonstrated self-motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education, leadership and related Clinical Specialties;
  7. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments, patient care units and hospital sites within the Corporation;
  8. Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients with the use of mechanical lifts;
  9. Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care;
  10. Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
  11. Ability to perform the essential duties of the position;
  12. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
  13. Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;
  14. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions in this area;
  15. Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
  16. Must have a satisfactory performance record.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
