Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse
Status: Regular Part Time
Department: LHAP, 2N MEDICINE
Program: Medicine
12 Hour Shifts - Days, Evenings, Nights & Weekends (Subject to Change)
Location: Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering
Wage Schedule: $36.140 - $38.160 per hour

DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to Manager of 2N (Inpatient Medicine), the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centred care environment. The Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IV's, setting up medical equipment as appropriate and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse from an accredited college or proof of upgraded equivalent skills.
  2. Diploma prepared Registered Practical Nurse or proof of upgraded equivalent skills.
  3. Competent to perform CPR at a basic Cardiac Life Support level.
  4. Current CPR/BCLS certificate.
  5. Physical/Health Assessment course from a recognized institution or equivalent course.
  6. Current employment experience in medical/surgical units (minimum 1 yr).
  7. Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care.
  8. Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
  9. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community.
  10. Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement.
  11. Evidence of education in Neurology, Nephrology, Palliative Care, an asset.
  12. Must have a satisfactory performance record.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
