Job Title: Registered Practical Nurse
Status: Regular Full Time
Department: General Emergency - Oshawa

12 Hour Shifts, DDNN Schedule (Subject to Change)

Wage Schedule: $36.14 - $38.16 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to Manager of Emergency Services, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) within Emergency Services will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementation, and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family-centered care environment. The Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, monitoring IV's, setting up medical equipment as appropriate, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse;
  2. Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from a recognized community college;
  3. 1-2 years Med/Surg experience (within the last 24 months) and/or Emergency department experience;
  4. CC1 course required to be completed or willing to complete within 6 months of hire;
  5. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (Ontario Heart & Stroke guidelines preferred);
  6. Competent to perform CPR at a basic Cardiac Life Support level;
  7. Current Medication Administration course;
  8. Physical Assessment course from a recognized institution and/or equivalent;
  9. Demonstrated experience in performing electrocardiograms (ECGs) and venipuncture an asset;
  10. Proven sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
  11. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
  12. Demonstrated ability to relate to patients and family members of a diverse community setting;
  13. Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service within multidisciplinary team and when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;
  14. Proven excellent documentation skills;
  15. Demonstrated ability to perform all RPN nursing and related duties to the full scope of their practice preferred;
  16. Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  17. Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
  18. Demonstrated understanding of and, commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
