General Job Description:
Under the supervision of the building principal, the registered nurse will provide healthcare for students, including dispensing medications, caring for injuries, and coordinating health prevention activities and wellness programs.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of pediatric medical experience preferred.
- Diploma, Associates, or Bachelors Degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Valid Illinois Registered Nurse license from the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations.
- CPR certification.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Equivalent education and experience considered.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide safety and health information to students and staff; maintain compliance with immunization, health records, vision, and hearing screenings.
- Dispense medications per Illinois School Code and district policies; ensure security of controlled substances.
- Monitor and provide treatment for students during recovery periods; communicate with parents and physicians.
- Be aware of medication side effects and interactions.
- Perform medical interventions to promote student independence.
- Maintain universal precautions following OSHA guidelines.
- Promote wellness programs; distribute informational materials; serve as a medical resource.
- Provide first aid and notify paramedics in emergencies.
- Develop and update individualized nursing care plans for at-risk students.
- Notify parents/staff of communicable diseases.
- Provide health education in classrooms as needed.
- Coordinate with parents, food service, teachers regarding students' medical needs.
- Maintain accident and disease reports and logs.
- Attend relevant meetings.
- Refer students to healthcare providers as necessary.
- Assess students' medical needs.
- Collaborate with school staff, district personnel, and outside agencies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the director and principal.
